چکیده

There is a wild variety of Raman scattering techniques which may be used for characterization of phononphonon and spin-phonon interaction in nanocrystals. For magnetic nanocrystals, Raman microscopy is a useful tool to probe the spin-phonon coupling and exchange energy between antiferromagnetic next-nearestneighboring magnons in nanocrystals below the Néel temperature. This study shows that multi-magnon configurations were determined from the confocal Raman scattering factor, revealing a relative energy state that correlated with superexchange coupling strength.

Influence of nonmagnetic Zn substitution on the lattice and magnetoelectric dynamical properties of the multiferroic material CuO

Dynamic magnetoelectric coupling in the improper ferroelectric Cu1−xZnxO (x = 0, x = 0.05) was investigated using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy to probe electromagnon and magnon modes. Zinc substitution was found to reduce the antiferromagnetic ordering temperature and widen the multiferroic phase, under the dual influences of spin dilution and a reduction in unit-cell volume. The impact o...

Surface- and tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy reveals spin-waves in iron oxide nanoparticles.

Nanomaterials have the remarkable characteristic of displaying physical properties different from their bulk counterparts. An additional degree of complexity and functionality arises when oxide nanoparticles interact with metallic nanostructures. In this context the Raman spectra due to plasmonic enhancement of iron oxide nanocrystals are here reported showing the activation of spin-waves. Iron...

Investigation of the Spin-Peierls transition in CuGeO3 by Raman scattering

Raman experiments on the spin-Peierls compound CuGeO3 and the substituted (Cu1−x,Znx)GeO3 and Cu(Ge1−x,Gax)O3 compounds were performed in order to investigate the response of specific magnetic excitations of the one-dimensional spin-1/2 chain to spin anisotropies and substitution-induced disorder. In pure CuGeO3, in addition to normal phonon scattering which is not affected at all by the spin-P...

Coupled magnon-phonon excitations in Sr2CuCl2O2 at high pressure

High-pressure optical experiments have been performed on midinfrared excitations unique to the layered cuprates, yet whose physical origin has been unresolved. Measurements of high-pressure midinfrared spectra of Sr2CuCl2o2 unambiguously identify the ;2800-cm 21 absorption as an unusual quasibound two-magnon 1 phonon excitation. We further show that the broad peak centered near ;4000 cm is a fo...

Quantifying electron-phonon coupling in CdTe12xSex nanocrystals via coherent phonon manipulation

We employ ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy with temporal pulse shaping to manipulate coherent phonon excitation and quantify the strength of electron-phonon coupling in CdTe1 xSex nanocrystals (NCs). Raman active CdSe and CdTe longitudinal optical phonon (LO) modes are excited and probed in the time domain. By temporally controlling pump pulse pairs to coherently excite and cancel co...
